The introduction of the home movie camera was an important step forward in the world of amateur photography. Never before could people record a loved one in action, capturing all the fun and quirky traits unique to that person. The ability to make a home movie became a popular past-time, giving us hours of video of our families and ourselves, forever young and happy.
Because of age deterioration and changes in technology, our home movies are becoming obsolete and are quickly fading away. Preserve that moment in time - help that moment last forever by converting it to archival DVD.

The most special moments in your children's lives have been captured on 8mm film reels. That footage of birthdays, dance festivals, and holidays is completely irreplaceable, and it just sits in a box, fading away with time.
8mm and 16mm films are made up of a plastic tape backing and a gelatin emulsion image layer. Aging takes its toll on film, causing it to fade and crack. As film sits in storage, it will dry out with a lack of moisture and lubrication. The film has no chemicals to help preserve the base material, so it will become brittle and literally fall apart.
Your kids have grown up, but they'll always be your babies in home movies. Preserve the special childhood moments through digital transfer. Protect your memories from being lost forever on old, brittle film.

Much of what may be on a collection of 8mm and 16mm film collections is unknown, but no one would deny that the footage is very sentimental and important. If you had a choice, you would have those memories last forever. Unfortunately, the film that your memories are on doesn't last very long at all.
Heat and humidity are your film's worst enemies. Dark, moist storage creates an environment that promotes the growth of mold on the organic emulsion layer of the film. Virtually all old film is at risk of, if not all ready instilled with, mold. As mold is almost completely impossible to remove from film without destroying it, it is vital to rescue the information or images from the film before it is eliminated.
You still have a choice to make your memories last forever. Through Plastic Trees video services, your film will be carefully converted to DVD format and transferred onto archival media, ensuring that your precious footage will be around forever.

Grandma may be gone, but you'll never forget her laugh preserved in a movie. Preserving your home movies proves to be so important when they become the only physical memories you have left of someone who has gone.
Magnetic tapes, including VHS, VHS-C, HI-8, and even MINI-DV, have an average lifespan of 10-15 years. In as little as two years, the magnetic particles that make up the picture and sound will begin to wear off of plastic tape backing. Stray magnetic fields in the environment cause signal loss. Typical usage will further degrade your tapes on every viewing. The VCR head causes physical wear, as does the movement of the tape through the transport.
DVD has lifespan of 100 years, providing permanent family video that will never degrade. No one can accidentally erase your tape, children cannot harm it with sticky spills, and there is no danger of your DVD player eating your disc as VCRs so often do with tape.
A DVD can be viewed and shared time and time again with no loss in picture or audio quality. You can rest assured that you will never have to let go of the sound of grandma's laughter as you have it forever preserved on a DVD.

Prior to the transfer process, your film will be cleaned and lubricated to ensure the most clean and sharp image possible and reduce the chances of breaking. Cleaning and lubrication safely removes dirt and dust from your film while coating the film to remedy the brittle condition.
As your 8mm and 16mm film has aged, it has lost much of its original brightness and color brilliance. Before your movies are finalized, we will correct colors, enhance contrast levels, and sharpen the images to make your films look more like they did the day they were taken.

Blank sections of video tapes cause an annoying blue screen or snow on your television. When your movies are transferred to DVD, any blank sections will be edited out, leaving you with clean, flowing movies.
8mm films are commonly viewed one small reel at a time, leaving you with white leader film before and after every 4 minute section. We will edit out the leader, which is non-essential to your movies, and combine your footage through smooth cross-fade transitions, making them more appealing to watch.

Old silent films can be more exciting with an added soundtrack. Bring in a collection of your favorite songs to be included as background music to your transferred movies. Adding the right music to home movies creates a sentimental experience that is truly special for everyone.

Each disc has a surface print of your personalized titles and messages
, produced with a heat-transfer disc printing system. A thermal printed disc is durable and water-resistant. It eliminates disc wobble and will not peel off due to heat, which are problems common with adhered labels.

Your movies will be transferred to DVD with the use of specialized equipment dedicated to video production. Each clip is primarily imported into a computer, where we are then able to perform any restoration work, add transitions and audio soundtracks, insert titles, or conduct any editing. Your films are treated with the best of care, and we are certain that you will be pleased with the results.
Up to 120 minutes of recording time can be transferred to one disc, however, we recommend 90 minutes to ensure optimum results. There is a higher compression rate with 120 minutes of video, which compromises overall quality.
